HOA vs. Community Association
The Alpine Park Homeowners’ Association (HOA) and a Community Association are separate organizations with different purposes and responsibilities.
Alpine Park Homeowners’ Association (HOA)
The Alpine Park HOA is a not-for-profit organization established to own, maintain, and steward specific community assets and amenities within Alpine Park. Membership in the HOA is mandatory for property owners within the community.
The HOA is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and long-term stewardship of HOA-owned and HOA-managed assets, including:
- Green Court open spaces
- Community gardens
- Community entry features
- Select boulevard landscaping
- Designated pathway snow removal
- Other HOA-owned and HOA-maintained community assets
The HOA is governed by a Board of Directors and funded through annual HOA fees paid by Members.
Community Associations
Community Associations are volunteer-based organizations that typically focus on community-building activities such as events, recreation programs, resident engagement, advocacy, and neighbourhood initiatives. Community Associations often work collaboratively with residents, local schools, businesses, elected officials, and The City of Calgary to support community interests and programming. The City of Calgary recognizes and supports Community Associations as local community organizations.
Unlike an HOA, participation in a Community Association is generally voluntary and is not tied to ownership of property.
Alpine Park Today
At this time, Alpine Park does not have an established Community Association.
The Alpine Park HOA is the organization responsible for the stewardship and management of HOA-owned and HOA-maintained assets within the community.
As Alpine Park continues to grow, residents may choose to establish a Community Association in the future. Should a Community Association be formed, it would operate independently from the HOA and would have a different mandate focused on community programming, advocacy, volunteerism, and resident engagement.
